Day Trip Ngorongoro Crater
Safari Highlights

Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact caldera, is a must-visit destination for a day trip. Recognized as one of the world’s natural wonders, this UNESCO World Heritage site is part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where people and wildlife live in harmony. The crater is home to an impressive variety of animals, including the iconic “Big Five” – elephants, buffalo, rhinos, lions, and leopards. It’s the ultimate destination for wildlife enthusiasts, offering the rare opportunity to spot all of the Big Five in a single day, making for an unforgettable safari experience.

Itinerary

Your day at Ngorongoro Crater will be filled with stunning views and unforgettable wildlife experiences.

After breakfast at the lodge, your Social Adventure Safari guide will meet you for a briefing, and you’ll begin your journey with a scenic 2-hour and 30-minute drive from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater. With a packed lunch in hand, you’ll spend more time exploring the park. Upon arrival at Loduare Gate, you’ll check in and drive a short distance to the crater rim, where the breathtaking landscapes begin. From here, you’ll descend over 600 meters to enter the Ngorongoro Crater, a self-contained ecosystem full of natural wonders.

Unlike many other parks where spotting all five of the Big Five can be a rare treat, Ngorongoro Crater offers an excellent chance to see them all in one day. Along with the Big Five, you may encounter other wildlife such as elands, hartebeests, zebras, and wildebeests. A highlight of the crater is Lake Magadi, where you’ll find hippos, flamingos, and other water life. During your picnic lunch at the hippo pool, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to take in the stunning surroundings. After lunch, you’ll head out for an afternoon game drive to explore more of the park and search for wildlife you may have missed in the morning.

Following the game drive, you’ll ascend back to the crater rim and make your way back to Arusha.
