Arrival Day – Welcome to Tanzania!

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to House of West Kili. Your climbing manager and expert guide will provide a thorough briefing and conduct an equipment check to prepare you for your trek. 

Enjoy a relaxing evening with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included at the lodge as you get ready for the adventure ahead.

Accommodation: House of West Kili (Bed, Breakfast & Dinner)

Day 1: House of West Kili to Forest Camp

Elevation: 7,742 ft to 9,498 ft | Distance: 4 miles | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours | Habitat: Afromontane Rainforest

Drive to Londorossi Gate, where your trek begins through lush rainforest filled with wildlife. Meet your trekking crew and ascend at a comfortable pace, enjoying a packed lunch on the trail. Reach Forest Camp in the mid-afternoon to rest and prepare for the days ahead.

Overnight: Forest Camp

Day 2: Forest Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Elevation: 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft | Distance: 5 miles | Hiking Time: 5-6 hours | Habitat: Heather & Volcanic Plateau

Ascend through podocarpus and juniper forests onto the Shira Plateau, a volcanic plateau with dramatic views of Kibo Peak. Enjoy a scenic lunch en route before reaching Shira 1 Camp for a restful afternoon.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Elevation: 11,500 ft to 13,800 ft | Distance: 7 miles | Hiking Time: 5-7 hours | Habitat: Moorland

Cross the Shira Plateau’s moorland meadows, enjoying spectacular scenery. Upon arrival at Moir Hut, consider a short acclimatization hike in the Lent Hills to help your body adjust to altitude.

Day 4: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

Elevation: 13,800 ft to 15,223 ft (Lava Tower), then down to 13,044 ft | Distance: 7 km | Hiking Time: 4-6 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert

Trek towards the iconic Lava Tower with lunch nearby, optionally ascending for better acclimatization. Descend into the lush Barranco Valley, known for giant senecios and lobelias, and rest at Barranco Camp.

Overnight: Barranco Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,123 ft | Distance: 3 miles | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Mountainous Valley

Navigate the challenging Barranco Wall scramble, then follow varied terrain to Karanga Camp. This strategically placed camp aids acclimatization and offers unforgettable sunset views over glaciers.

Overnight: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 15,288 ft to 19,341 ft (ascent), then down to 12,467 ft (descent) | Distance: 3 miles ascent, 7 miles descent | Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent | Habitat: Alpine Desert

Cross the barren alpine desert to Barafu Camp beneath Kibo Peak. Rest and prepare for your final summit attempt amid breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak.

Overnight: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 12,467 ft to 19,341 ft (summit), descent to 10,170 ft | Distance: 6 miles | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours ascent, 7-8 hours descent

Begin your summit climb before midnight, trekking through cold and windy conditions to Stella Point for a spectacular sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak, celebrate your success, then descend through the rainforest to Mweka Camp.

Overnight: Mweka Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8: Mweka Camp to House of West Kili

Hiking Time: 4-7 hours | Habitat: Montane Forest

Descend through Kilimanjaro’s lush montane forest to Mweka Gate. After signing out and receiving your summit certificate, transfer back to House of West Kili to rest or prepare for your onward journey.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Departure Day

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward journey, carrying unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure with Social Adventure Safari.
