Arrival Day – Welcome to Tanzania!

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our friendly Social Adventure Safari team will meet you and transfer you to House of West Kili. 

Relax in your comfortable room before a hearty dinner and a detailed briefing from your climbing manager and guide, including a thorough equipment check to prepare you for the trek ahead.

Accommodation: House of West Kili (Bed, Breakfast & Dinner)

Day 1: Arusha to Forest Camp (2,360m / 7,742 ft)

Distance: 4 miles | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours | Habitat: Afromontane Rainforest

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate, the starting point of the Lemosho Route. Begin your trek through lush rainforest rich with wildlife and giant trees. Meet your full climbing crew and take a picnic lunch en route to Forest Camp, your tranquil base for the first night.

Day 2: Forest Camp to Moir Hut Camp (3,505m / 11,500 ft)

Distance: 5 miles | Hiking Time: 5-6 hours | Habitat: Heather and volcanic plateau

Today you ascend through podocarpus and juniper forests to the Shira Plateau, an ancient collapsed volcanic peak. Revel in sweeping views of Kibo Peak as you hike across this dramatic landscape to Moir Hut Camp.

Day 3: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp (3,980m / 13,044 ft)

Distance: 7 km | Hiking Time: 4-6 hours | Habitat: Alpine desert and moorland

Cross the rugged slopes of Kibo, stopping for lunch at the striking Lava Tower volcanic rock. Afterward, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley, famous for the “Garden of Senecios,” home to giant groundsel and lobelia plants.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,000m / 13,123 ft)

Distance: 3 miles | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: High alpine valley

Climb the iconic Barranco Wall, a rewarding scramble. Continue hiking through the Karanga Valley, enjoying breathtaking panoramic views at Karanga Camp, a vital acclimatization point on your journey.

Overnight: Karanga Camp

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (3,800m / 12,467 ft)

Distance: 3 miles ascent | Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent | Habitat: Alpine desert

Today’s climb takes you to the stark and windy Barafu Camp, perched beneath Mawenzi Peak. Relax with lunch and rest well to prepare for the challenging summit attempt later this evening.

Overnight: Barafu Camp

Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,300m)

Distance: 6 miles ascent, descent | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours ascent, 6-8 hours descent | Habitat: Alpine to montane forest

Depart before midnight for the final push under the stars to Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your success at sunrise before descending to Mweka Camp through lush forest for your last night on the mountain.

Overnight: Mweka Camp

Day 7: Mweka Camp to House of West Kili

Descend the remaining trail to Mweka Gate, where you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate. After heartfelt farewells to your mountain crew, transfer back to House of West Kili for a warm shower and a celebratory dinner.

Departure Day – Farewell Tanzania

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward journey, carrying unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure with Social Adventure Safari.
