The best time to trek Mount Kilimanjaro is during the dry seasons: January to mid-March and June to October. These months offer clear skies, better trail conditions, and a higher chance of a successful summit.

Arrival Day – Welcome to Tanzania!

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the Social Adventure Safari team and transferred to House of West Kili. 

Enjoy a relaxing evening with dinner provided at the lodge as you prepare for your upcoming climb with a full briefing and gear check by your expert guide.

Accommodation: House of West Kili (Bed, Breakfast & Dinner)

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,980m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours | Distance: Approx. 12 km | Habitat: Montane Forest

After an early breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin your trek through lush rainforest filled with wildlife such as Colobus monkeys, traversing muddy and misty trails. You’ll reach Mandara Hut, a cozy camp featuring solar lighting and flush toilets, where a delicious dinner awaits after a rewarding first day on the mountain.

Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Hiking Time: ~6 hours | Distance: Approx. 15 km | Habitat: Moorland

Today’s climb transitions from rainforest into the expansive moorland. Pass by the stunning Maundi Crater and enjoy spectacular views of Kibo Peak. The path is decorated with unique flora like giant lobelias and groundsel plants. Arrive at Horombo Hut, a large plateau camp where warm meals and water are provided. Nights here get quite cold, so be prepared.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720m)

This important rest day is designed to help your body adjust to the altitude. You may choose to hike to Mawenzi Hut (4,600m) for better acclimatization or relax at camp. Meals will be served onsite, and the day is yours to recharge before the more challenging days ahead.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch (packed or at hut), Dinner

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Hiking Time: ~6 hours | Distance: Approx. 15 km | Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, ascend into the alpine desert zone via either the upper or lower trail to Kibo Hut, located between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing to prepare for the summit attempt later tonight. Early to bed!

Overnight: Kibo Hut

Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut (4,700m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Hiking Time: 8 hours ascent, 6 hours descent | Distance: Approx. 27 km | Habitat: Rocky Scree & Ice Summit

Rise early (around 23:30) for tea and biscuits before beginning your summit push. Ascend steep trails to Hans Meyer Cave (5,150m) and onward to Gillman’s Point (5,681m) on the crater rim. The final stretch leads to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa—where you’ll celebrate your success with panoramic views and photos. Descend to Kibo Hut for lunch and rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut for your last night on the mountain.

Day 6: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,980m) – Return to Arusha

Hiking Time: ~6 hours | Distance: Approx. 27 km | Habitat: Forest

Enjoy a final hearty breakfast before descending through forest trails to Marangu Gate. Celebrate your achievement with your team through song and dance before signing out and receiving your summit certificate—green for Gillman’s Point or gold for Uhuru Peak. Transfer back to House of West Kili for a well-deserved shower and restful evening.

Departure Day – Farewell Tanzania

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward journey, carrying unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure with Social Adventure Safari.

If you’re not ready to say goodbye just yet, you have the option to extend your trip—choose a thrilling wildlife safari in Serengeti or Ngorongoro, or unwind with a beach relaxation escape in Zanzibar. Let us know your preference, and we’ll be happy to arrange the perfect extension for you!
